DEBBIE WASKOW: 2009 AND 2010 ABWA TOP TEN BUSINESS WOMAN CANDIDATE FOR LWEN
I am honored to be ABWA’s Top Ten Business Woman Candidate for the Leading Women Express Network for 2009 and 2010. It is an exciting time! I attended the 2008-2009 Top Ten Luncheon honoring the Top Ten candidates from around the country at the ABWA National Conference in Kentucky last year, and I am proud to represent you again this year at the ABWA National Conference and Top Ten Luncheon in Kansas City.
Applying for Top Ten is a time consuming and grueling task, but one that I was proud of after completing - twice! It took hours of writing, researching, looking back in the past and sharing personal information which I have kept to myself, my closest friends and family. I had to share my professional goals, my life experiences, and my ABWA historical profile. I shared how ABWA has helped me achieve my goals and what I have done personally to fulfill the mission of ABWA. I included my formal education, and career accomplishments, and my resume, which included my business experience from my first job in 1973 to my present position(s) in 2009. Finally, I listed my community involvement. I am sharing this information because I want the members to understand the process of applying for Top Ten.
As I mentioned in my TopTen application, I jumped into this organization with gusto. I am a strong supporter and member of LWEN. I want to share the excitement of this organization and its members whenever possible and I enjoy sponsoring guests (and future members) to the meetings. My personal growth has been from listening to and absorbing the knowledge of other members of ABWA. I enjoy my strong support network. I believe in mentoring members, and being mentored. I believe in supporting members businesses. As I also mentioned in my TopTen application, I have become a customer of at least 32 member businesses throughout my membership with LWEN. I believe in career development and enjoy attending ABWA conferences and seminars for the educational classes and programs, networking and the rush and awe I get from walking into a room of 700 business women at a national conference.
I have personally grown from being a member of LWEN and I cannot think of another organization I would rather be in and represent than LWEN and the wonderful women who are members. Thank you for supporting me as your ABWA Top Ten candidate!
